South African athlete Oscar Pistorius is due back in court today for sentencing after he was convicted of culpable homicide for the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide but was cleared of murder at the court last month. Judge Masipa will now hear legal arguments and testimony over the coming days before reaching a decision on his sentence.

The Paralympic sprinter denied murdering Ms. Steenkamp at their home on Valentine’s Day 2013 and said that he shot her by mistake when he thought that there was an intruder in their home.

Judge Masipa told the court last month that she believed that the athlete had acted “negligently”.
