Over 2,000 Debenham staff member’s jobs are at risk after the company put 11 of its stores into examinership.

According to The Irish Times, the retail chain was forced to enter its stores into examinership after they failed to negotiate on rent of their properties. One of the landlords they are in negotiations with is the Roches family, who previously owned Roches Stores, what Debenhams was formerly called.

This new development means that 2,265 jobs have been put at risk but staff have been reassured that they will continue as usual during the court proceedings.

The negotiations are over the rent prices which the company believes reflect that of the boom years but are now too high in comparison to the market rates. They are seeking a reduction from the landlords to continue trading.
