Pedestrian killed in road collision in Cavan

Gardaí are looking for witnesses.

A pedestrian has been killed in a road accident in Cavan last night.

A man died after a road traffic collision occurred on the R198 between Coras Point and Cavan town at around 9 pm last night.

The man is believed to be in his 60s and the accident involved him and a car.

The man’s body was taken to the mortuary at Cavan General Hospital and a post-mortem is expected to take place later on today.

There were no other injuries that were reported from the incident.

A forensic examination is also set to take place, with the scene being preserved for this and the road is currently closed off with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward, especially anyone travelling between Cavan town and Crossdoney between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.
