Northern England has been battered by stormy weather over the weekend, causing many people to be evacuated from their homes due to extreme flooding.
Areas affected have included York, Leeds and Blackburn and according to The Independent, the police in York have run out of ‘road closed’ signs because the chaos is so widespread.
The Independent also report that Prime Minister David Cameron is visiting flood-stricken areas: ‘During the visit, he told Sky News the government will plan to spend an extra £280 million on flood defences.’
Troops have been called in to help with defence efforts since the 26th and have been handing out sandbags and rescuing people from their damaged homes.
