According to the Irish Sun, plans have been put on hold – or indeed they may be permanently scrapped – after residents in the area objected them.

A petition was signed by 33 people, however an official explained: “The council was approached earlier this year by the Irish Naturist Association with a request to put in place an advisory sign at Hawk Cliff advising members of the public that they may encounter nudity at this location.

“The area in question has historically been tolerant to natural bathing and the council wished to advise those members of the public not aware of this that nudity might be encountered here.”

Meanwhile, Cllr John Bailey previously the website: “I would be totally opposed. Dalkey is a very settled community and it would bring people in that shouldn’t come into the town.

“It does not send out the right message.”
