Pope Francis compares having an abortion to ‘hiring a hit man’

Pope Francis has compared having an abortion to “hiring a hit man.”

The Pontiff said today that he believed opting to end a pregnancy was akin to “(taking) out a human life to solve a problem.”

He said that he thought the act was “not fair.”

The Ottowa Sun reports that the Pope said:

“How can an act that suppresses innocent and defenceless life as it blossoms be therapeutic, civil or simply human?”

“Is it fair to hire a hit man to solve a problem? It is not fair. We cannot take out a human being, even if it is small.”

This comes after Pope Francis referenced abortion in a speech about “throwaway culture” during his visit to Ireland.

The Pope was visiting Dublin and Knock as part of the 2018 World Meeting of Families.

His words came just months after the Irish public voted overwhelmingly in favour of repealing the Eighth Amendment which previously made abortion illegal.

Half a million people were expected to turn out for the Papal mass in Phoenix Park in August.

Under 130,000 actually attended the event.
