Postmortem to be carried out on baby girl who died in dog attack

A post-mortem will be carried out this morning on the body of a three-month-old girl who died following a dog attack in Co. Waterford yesterday.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning at a house in Clashmore, west Waterford.

The dog, who was owned by the family and not of a breed on the restricted list, attacked the baby girl in her bedroom.

Paramedics attended the scene and the infant was taken to Cork University Hospital. She was pronounced dead at approximately 3.15am.

“Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances after a female infant, aged three months, was fatally injured by a dog at a residence in Clashmore, Co. Waterford in the early hours of this morning,” a statement said yesterday.

The postmortem will be carried out at Cork University Hospital.

Gardaí have appealed for the media and public to respect the family’s privacy at this tragic time.
