An earthquake struck Nepal earlier today, killing hundreds of people. According to BBC news, at least 876 people are known to have died in the natural disaster. Officials have said that many people are trapped beneath the rubble and thousands are injured. According to reports, the 7.8 magnitude quake struck an area between the capital, Kathmandu, and the city of Pokhara. Nepali Information Minister Minendra Rijal said: "We need support from the various international agencies which are more knowledgeable and equipped to handle the kind of emergency we face now". Historic landmarks were destroyed in the ruins and people are believed to be trapped inside the Dharahara tower with rescuers picking their way through the rubble. UPDATE: The death toll in Nepal has risen to 1,341 according to a police statement.
