Prince of Denmark refuses to be buried with wife for bizarre reason

The strangest call for gender equality we've heard in a while.

He may not be king, but he’s certainly a drama queen.

Being king is a pretty cool title to hold, but we’re not sure it’s worth making this much of a fuss.

Prince Henrik of Denmark has caused a stir this week by saying that he refuses to be buried next to his wife Queen Margarethe because he never got the title of King of Denmark.

It is traditional within the Danish monarchy for women to become queen when they marry a king but that’s not the case for men who marry a queen.

They instead get the title of prince.

Prince Henrick is having none of it and says he’ll be buried separately from his wife of 50 years as the issue amounts to gender discrimination.

“It makes me angry that I am subjected to discrimination,” he told French newspaper Le Figaro.

“Denmark, which is otherwise known as an avid defender of gender equality, is apparently willing to consider husbands as worth less than their wives.”

The queen, who has had a special sarcophagus made for the couple, has accepted Henrik’s decision, reports the BBC.
