Prince Philip has been admitted to hospital due to an infection

Officials are calling it a 'precautionary measure'.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been taken to hospital and is being treated for an infection.

Officials are calling it a “precautionary measure” in a statement that reads:

“The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London last night, as a precautionary measure, for treatment of an infection arising from a pre-existing condition.”

The Duke is said to be in “good spirits”, however is “disappointed” he does not get to return to Royal Ascot today with his family.

Prince Philip was seen with the Queen yesterday enjoying Ascot and appeared to be in good health.

Officials say the Queen will still be in attendance at Ascot today.

“Her Majesty is being kept informed and will attend Royal Ascot as planned.”

Prince Philip celebrated his 96th birthday this month and announced he would be giving up his public duties earlier this year.
