Princes William And Harry have commissioned a statue of Princess Diana

Can you believe it is 20 years since Princess Diana died?

Now her sons have decided a permanent statue will be erected in the grounds of Kensington Palace for the public to visit.

Prince William and Harry issued a statement saying:

“It has been 20 years since our mother’s death and the time is right to recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world with a permanent statue. Our mother touched so many lives. We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy.”

BBC News reports work on the art piece will begin soon but a sculptor has not yet been chosen.

Diana, the Princess of Wales died on 31 August 1997 in a car crash in Paris.

William was just 15 and Harry, 12 years old.

We all remember the outpouring of grief around the world – and her funeral was watched by 2 billion people worldwide

The statue will be located near the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park in London.
