Prisoner reportedly confesses to the murder of Teresa Halbach

Police are said to be verifying the confession.

An inmate at a prison in Wisconsin has reportedly confessed the murder of Teresa Halbach, the photographer whose death was the subject of Netflix's Making A Murderer. According to Newsweek, the man is said to have told the makers of the upcoming docuseries Convicting A Murderer that he was the one who killed Ms. Halbach. Shawn Rech, director of Convicting a Murderer, told Newsweek: 

"We haven't confirmed the legitimacy of the confession, but seeing as it was given by a notable convicted murderer from Wisconsin, we feel responsible to deliver any and all possible evidence to law enforcement and legal teams. "Having been in production for 20 months, we've uncovered an unfathomable amount of information and evidence that is leading us to the truth. Our investigation does not end here."

Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey are both currently serving life sentences for Ms. Halbach's murder. Both men say that they are innocent. Rech confirmed that the confession did not come from either Dassey or Avery. Avery's lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, took to Twitter following the news to assure her followers they were looking into the reported admission of guilt. "We received the handwritten confession on Saturday. It is worthless unless it is corroborated," she said. Dassey's lawyer, Laura Nirider, also took to the social media platform to assure her followers they were "aware of the alleged confession". "We are aware of the alleged confession given by an inmate in Brendan’s case. Thanks to all for your messages," she wrote.
