A man racially abused a pregnant woman and then kicked her in the stomach.

A 34-year-old woman lost the child she was pregnant with after being kicked in the stomach during a racist attack.

While shopping at a Co-op on Water Eaton Road, Bletchley – near Milton Keynes – the woman was subjected to racial abuse from a man who then followed her to her car and then used a bottle and a bag of ice to hit a 40-year-old man over the head after he attempted to intervene.

The attacker then returned to the woman and kicked her strongly in the stomach, causing her to fall to the ground.

Both were taken to Milton Keynes General Hospital but they have since been discharged – although the woman was informed that her baby could not be saved.

The incident took place at around 9.40pm on Saturday, August 6  but police have just released a CCTV image of the alleged attacker and have asked anyone with information to come forward.

PC Richard Armitage said in a statement:

“This racially aggravated assault had absolutely devastating consequences for the victim, who lost her baby as a result of the attack.

“Our thoughts are with her and her family at this incredibly difficult and sad time.

“A thorough investigation is underway and we would like to speak to the man pictured as he may have information which could help with the investigation.

“If you recognise the man in the CCTV image or have any information about this incident please contact me via the Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101.

“If you don’t want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.”
