Radio stations across the country are playing this warning every 15 minutes.

Hurricane Ophelia is due to make landfall in Ireland shortly and it is being called an “unprecedented” event in the country’s history.

This morning, Met Éireann issued a national warning to people across the country advising them to stay indoors at peak times of the storm.

However, there is also a Government warning being broadcast on all radio stations every 15 minutes to remind the public to stay vigilant.

According to Met Éireann, Ophelia is expected to bring with it between 50mm and 100mm of rainfall and violent winds.

“Violent and destructive gusts are forecast with all areas at risk and in particular the southwest and south in the morning, and eastern counties in the afternoon,” reads the latest update from Met Éireann.

“Also heavy rain and storm surges along some coasts will result in flooding.

“There is a potential risk to lives.”

All schools, colleges and childcare facilities will remain closed today and the HSE has cancelled all hospital appointments also.
