People heading to Electric Picnic fans will be glad to know that Laois isn’t one of the counties affected by the rainfall warning.

So much for back to school weather; this weekend is set to be a washout after Met Éireann issued a status yellow rainfall warning for 14 counties, incorporating every province except Ulster.

The warning, issued at 10am on Friday, warns of heavy rain developing in the west on Saturday afternoon, rain which will spread eastwards during the evening and will continue for a time overnight into the early hours of Sunday morning.

The counties of Dublin, Carlow, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford have all been included in the warning, which is valid until 6am on Sunday morning.

While Laois isn’t one of the counties included in the warning, festival goers at Electric Picnic are likely to bear the brunt of the rain at some stage over a weekend which has also promised warm and sunny conditions at times on Friday and Saturday and a couple of chilly nights, particularly under clear skies on Friday night.

The rest of us may well get the brollies out; it’s going to be a wet one.
