A customer who received an Apple iPhone 6 prototype by mistake is now selling the item on eBay – where bids have almost reached €49,000 ($61,000).

The seller believes that they were sent one of Apple’s very early prototypes by mistake and that it is extremely rare.

According to the eBay listing, Verizon sent it to the seller by mistake.

“For sale is a brand new never used Apple iPhone 6 Prototype,” reads the description online. “Apple does NOT let these phones out of their possession yet I was accidentally sent one upon renewing my contract.”

“It is in the true developer mode. There are no FCC markings on the rear of the device or a model number. This is the real deal!! The lightening port is red which is a sure sign of a prototype.

“This is a once in a life time opportunity for you to take a part of. I am also giving a 110% guarantee on this being an authentic Apple prototype device.”

Bids for the phone started at $999 but have jumped up into the region of $61,000 with three days still remaining in the auction.
