Reports Find Jimmy Savile NHS Victims Aged Between Five and 75

Reports into the abuse by Jimmy Savile in NHS hospitals have revealed that his victims were aged between five and 75. The investigation, which was launched by the Department of Health and carried out by hospital trusts following the outpouring of allegations against the former BBC DJ, found that he abused patients, visitors and staff. The Jim’ll Fix It presenter, who died at the age of 84 back in 2011 before the claims were broadcast in an ITV documentary, was allowed unsupervised access to patients at the likes of Leeds General Infirmary. In this institution, 60 people came forward to say they had been abused. The offences range from lewd remarks to rape with victims aged between five and 75, some of which were staff. The investigation at Leeds also found that only nine people informed staff of the abuse. Savile is described as “narcissistic, arrogant and lacking in empathy” in the reports. They also said he was manipulative and had close connections in high places. The findings said that the numbers are likely to be an underestimation of the true picture as so many people were reluctant to tell staff of the abuse they suffered.
