Locals were furious.

A restaurant has come under fire for offering discounts to women based on their bra size.

Trendy Shrimp, which is located in a mall in the city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang in China, first posted the advertisements early this month.

The poster showed a line-up of cartoon women in their underwear alongside the tagline: “The whole city is looking for BREASTS”.

The discounts for women were listed depending on cup size, ranging from 5 percent for those wearing A cups to 65 percent for those wearing G cups.

One local resident told the Qianjiang Evening Post that the advertisement was “vulgar advertising” and “discriminatory towards women”.

The woman, along with several others, called in complaints to the local council to ask for the poster to be removed.

According the BBC, the posters were first spotted on August 1 – but were removed after the backlash.

But the restaurant’s general manager Lan Shenggang defended the controversial advertisements – insisting customers had responded positively.

He said:

“Once the promotion started, customer numbers rose by about 20 percent.

“Some of the girls we met were very proud – they had nothing to hide.”

He also reassured customers that they can claim the discounts from the female staff members to “avoid embarrassment”.
