We know the J1 is really just about having the absolute craic, but a decent standard of living and disposable income would come in handy too, right?

If you’re off on your jollies this summer, Indeed has compiled a list of the best places to go on your J1, taking into account job market favourability, work-life balance and job security.

The conclusion is that job seekers should head south or west and steer clear of the New York hot-spot altogether.

The Empire City wasn’t even mentioned, while Miami came in first place followed by Orlando, Raleigh, Austin and Sacramento. Popular destination San Diego came in eighth and if you’re looking for a wild one, Las Vegas was ranked eleventh… not bad at all.

Other major cities that managed to make the list were Heuston (9th), LA (15th) and Seattle (17th). If your plan is to bask in the sunshine, be aware that beautiful Seattle has seen hot summers but it also lives up to its reputation as the rainy city.

New York’s Mayor Bill de Blasio was unimpressed at the slight. His spokesman told the New York Post,

“We don’t know what indeed.com is but we do know that our city has gained more than 370,000 jobs since 2014 and that the unemployment rate has plunged to four percent.”

Miami here we come!
