“A new chapter begins.”

RTÉ Six One’s Caitriona Perry has given birth to a baby girl.

The presenter announced the news on Instagram this evening, thanking everybody for their words of congratulations.

“A new chapter begins!” she wrote.

“Thanks to all for the well wishes on the birth of my beautiful baby girl and thanks to the midwives, doctors and nurses for the excellent care.

“Thanks too to the thoughtful @rtenews viewers who have been asking about me and the #newarrival.”

Perry also included the hashtags ‘good news,’ ‘new baby,’ ‘baby girl,’ ‘cailin beag,’ among others.

The former Washington correspondent first announced that she was pregnant earlier this year, when she told her social media followers that she was expecting some “news” of her own.

Addressing all of the “eagle-eyed RTÉ Six One viewers who have been in touch”, she said: “You are correct! I am expecting some ‘news’ of my own later this year.”

Perry and Keelin Shanley took up their roles as presenters of RTÉ’S Six One over a year ago.

Previously, Perry was RTÉ’s Washington correspondent and Shanley presented News at One on RTÉ Radio 1 as well as Crimecall.

Announcing the new roles back in November 2017, Director of RTÉ News & Current Affairs Jon Williams said:

“I’m thrilled that Keelin and Caitriona will bring their intellect, competitive drive, and focus on storytelling to RTÉ’s Six One News.

“In a news environment where we are bombarded by opinions and half-truths all day long, there’s no bigger challenge than to make sense of it all on Six One – and no better new presenting team to do so.”
