Ryanair customers whose flights were cancelled could lose a lot of money

Uh oh.

If your flight has been cancelled, it’s worth checking this out.

Thousands of customers who were due to fly with Ryanair over the next couple of weeks have seen their flights cancelled and despite the airline’s best efforts to save face by announcing a massive sale on Saturday, it looks like those with cancelled flights could be set for another blow.

Insurers have revealed that if you were one of the 315,000 passengers affected, you could still lose out on a lot of money even though Ryanair has promised to pay compensation to those affected.

According to The Telegraph, a recent survey of travel insurers has found that most standard policies of insurance will not cover “consequential losses” such as Ryanair cancelling your flight.

Fiona Macrae, of the Travel Insurance Explained campaign, stated firmly that unless your policy specifically asks to cover cancelled flights, your claim of getting a refund for accommodation or a car rental, for example, is likely to be unsuccessful.

“The cheaper a policy, the more limitations there are likely to be on that policy and people don’t always look at the cover provided when buying travel insurance,” she said.

“We would urge anyone buying a travel insurance policy to look for one that provides cancellation cover for ‘any cause beyond your control and you are unable to claim back from any other source’.

“We are trying to get people not to think about price first of all, because spending just a few pounds more on insurance could save hundreds of pounds in an event like this.”

Sadly, this might not even be the end of the saga as more Ryanair flight cancellations could be on the way following the airline’s AGM earlier in the week, where pilots rejected bonus offers to work extra days.
