Sainsbury’s evacuated after several people fall ill with breathing problems

Police are at the scene attempting to determine the cause of the incident.

A Sainsbury’s supermarket in Longbridge, West Midlands has been evacuated after several people became very unwell with breathing problems.

People in the surrounding buildings have also been evacuated.

As Metro reports, police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and locals have been told to avoid the area.

Seven people are being treated for “breathing problems” by paramedics, and according to West Midlands Ambulance Service, one person has been transported to hospital.

A statement from the West Midlands Police reads: “We are currently dealing with an incident at Sainsbury’s in Longbridge Lane, Longbridge.

“We were alerted at about 10am to reports that six people were suffering breathing problems.

“Officers attended and the store has been evacuated and people are also being cleared from other buildings in the area. The six patients are being treated by paramedics at the scene.

“We have specialist officers working with colleagues across the emergency services to establish exactly what has happened.

“A cordon has been put in place and we’d advise people to stay away from the area.”

The area and roads surrounding the supermarket have been closed off.
