A vocal cord surgery will leave Sam Thompson unable to speak, the 33-year-old TV personality has revealed.
On the latest episode of his Staying Relevant podcast, that he co-hosts alongside Pete Wicks, Thompson opened up about his health issues.
And as Wicks revealed that he has a medical appointment later this month because of a fall he had at home in December, Thompson quipped that “that’s two men who are going for surgery this year.”
He confirmed the reality of the situation as he laughingly shut down Wicks’ idea that he was preparing for a music career, suggesting that the surgery was part of a bigger announcement.
“Yeah, I genuinely am. I’ve got a cyst on my vocal chords. I’m having that taken out, which is going to be mad because it means I have three days of vocal rest”, he explained.
Vocal cord cysts are benign lesions and they can lead to hoarseness and voice strain.
People who rely heavily on their voices, including singers, broadcasters, and professional speakers, are commonly affected by these cysts, which develop when mucus-producing glands in the throat become blocked.
And in order for the vocal cords to heal properly, patients are advised not to speak at all for three days following surgery.
Thompson won’t have to go through the challenging recovery phase alone however, as he recently revealed he is now dating DJ and model Talitha Balinska.
She made a brief appearance in one of his Instagram videos several weeks ago, which as dubbed as ‘soft launch’ by the fans.
Thompson then shared a cosy photo with his new girlfriend as they enjoyed a romantic meal, posted on his Insta Story.
