Robert F Kennedy's granddaughter, Saoirse Kennedy, has died at the age of 22
Sad news this morning.
It has been reported that the granddaughter of Robert F Kennedy has passed at the family's compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.
Saoirse Kennedy Hill was at the home with her grandmother, Ethel Kennedy, when emergency serviced were called to the scene.
According to the New York Times, the 22-year-old was brought to Cape Cod hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A statement was released by the Kennedy family confirming the tragic loss of Saoirse.
"Our hearts are shattered by the loss of our beloved Saoirse," the family statement said.
"Her life was filled with hope, promise and love."
The statement also quoted Ethel, Saoirse's 91-year-old grandmother, who said:
"The world is a little less beautiful today."
Ethel has been no stranger to tragedy throughout her life, having lost a husband and two sons.
Robert F Kennedy was assassinated in Los Angeles shortly after winning the California primary race for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1968.
Two of her sons passed away as a result of a drug overdose.
Ethel's brother-in-law, President John F Kennedy, was also assassinated in 1963.
Our thoughts are with the Kennedy family at this heartbreaking time.
