A referendum will now take place

A referendum in the college will take place.

Earlier this month, UCD students drew up a petition to impeach their student union president after she withdrew the university’s guide book Winging It due to the information about abortion.

The first petition to impeach the student president was rejected due to concerns of its validity.

However, now a second petition against Katie Ascough has been accepted.

The petition calling for her impeachment was handed in on Monday after collecting 1200 signatures.

UCD Returning Officer Stephen Devine now believes it is valid and has accepted it after an outcry from the college’s students.

An impeachment referendum will take place later this month on October 25 and October 26.

Katie announced last night that she will take annual leave until the referendum has been called.
