Six Irish food businesses were served with closure orders in June

Recognise any of these places?

Six food businesses in Ireland were served with closure orders for breaches of food safety legislation during the month of June, according to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).

Three of the affected businesses were in Cork, and one each in Donegal, Dublin and Sligo.

One further business from Dublin was served with a prohibition order under the FSAI Act, 1988.

The food businesses were issued with closure orders for breaches of food safety legislation, pursuant to the FSAI Act, 1998 and the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010.

Five Closure Orders were served under the FSAI Act, 1998 on:

  • Golden Palace (take away), Main Street Lower, Dungloe, Co. Donegal
  • Express Pizza and Kebab (take away), 8A East Beach, Cobh, Co. Cork
  • Munchies (take away), Emmet Street, Tubbercurry, Sligo
  • Holy Crepe Tasty Tasty (food stall), Dunraven, Castlepark, Kinsale, Cork
  • East Oriental (take away), Unit 5, Brabazon Hall, Ardee Street, Dublin 8

One Closure Order was served under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 on:

  • Mace Supermarket, (Closed area: Delicatessen food preparation area and delicatessen walk-in cold storage and walk-in freezer activities), Main Street, Carrigtohill, Cork

One Prohibition Order was served under the FSAI Act, 1988 on:

  • Dragon Buffet (restaurant/café), 58/59 Abbey Street, Dublin 1

Under the FSAI Act, 1998, a Closure Order is served where it is deemed that there is or there is likely to be a grave and immediate danger to public health at or in the premises; or where an Improvement Order is not complied with. Closure Orders can refer to the immediate closure of all or part of the food premises, or all or some of its activities.

Under the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010, Closure Orders and Prohibition Orders are served where there is a non-compliance with food legislation
