Shane from Westlife’s wife, Gillian, is bankrupt – six years after his own financial collapse

Tough time for the family, no doubt.

In 2012, Shane Filan from Westlife declared himself bankrupt with debts of some €23m.

And now his wife, Gillian, has had to do the same.

According to legal documents seen by Mirror.co.uk, Gillian went to the High Court in London on July 23. And a representative for the Westlife star confirmed the news on Friday.

“The rep said that while the couple would not be making further comment, Gillian’s bankruptcy is relating to joint loans she shared with her famous husband – the same loans that left Shane millions of euros in debt,” The Mirror states.

Shane and his brother, Finbarr, went into business together but later got into financial difficulty during the recession; their company, Shafin Developments, borrowed millions from Bank of Ireland and Ulster Bank in order to develop property in Co Leitrim – close to Shane’s home in Sligo.

They also had plans to build a nursing home and supermarket.

Bankruptcy in the UK lasts for just 12 months – compared with 12 years in Ireland.

Gillian and Shane sold their Sligo mansion – once allegedly valued at €10m – for less €800,000 2014.

At the time of his bankruptcy, the singer had said: “A lot of people are going through it, whether it’s a small credit card or loan. Everybody is feeling it in some way, there’s a lot of pressure. It’s horrible.”

The couple has been married sine 2003 and have three children aged from 13 to eight together.
