Gardaí have seized a number of AK47 firearms that are believed to have been used in the Regency Hotel gun attack in Dublin last month.

The Irish Times report they were found during an operation in Slane, Co Meath in a massive breakthrough for the investigation.

The firearms were understood to have been found in a car, the driver of which has since been taken into police custody under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

David Byrne, a 33-year-old father from Crumlin was killed in the attack while two others were wounded, and the killing has been treated as revenge for the murder of Gary Hutch who was shot in Marbella, Spain.

There have also been some large-scale raids undertaken across 19 Dublin premises by Gardaí that uncovered valuable like Rolex and Breitling watches, cash, and 29 vehicles.
