While Martin was raised in London he has a strong connection to Ireland, through his parents, especially in Leitir Mealláin, Connemara where his dad is from. He used to spend family holidays in Ireland and holds a dual citizenship of Ireland and England. Following thee success of the movie, the community of Leitir Mealláin, erected three striking red billboards which read, "Comhghairdeas Martin McDonagh”, “Réalt Mór Leitir Mealláin” and “Réalt Mór Hollywood”, which translates to "Congratulations Martin McDonagh", "Big star of Leitir Mealláin", and "Big star of Hollywood".Trí chlár fhógra ar imeall oileán Leitirmealláin @Nuacht_Chasla @NuachtTG4 #MartinMcDonagh #Threebillboards pic.twitter.com/DcGJxXPDnu
