Someone recreated Three Billboards in Connemara in honour of Martin McDonagh

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri hasn’t just made an impact in box offices around the world, but it’s also now featuring on Irish landscape.

The movie, which is directed by Martin McDonagh, has won widespread appraise from movie lovers and cinema critics. It has picked up numerous awards and is set to claim a few more at the Oscars.

So, what better way for the Irish people to pay tribute and honour Martin, who is from London but has Irish roots, than to recreate the iconic billboards from the movie.

While Martin was raised in London he has a strong connection to Ireland, through his parents, especially in Leitir Mealláin, Connemara where his dad is from. He used to spend family holidays in Ireland and holds a dual citizenship of Ireland and England.

Following thee success of the movie, the community of Leitir Mealláin, erected three striking red billboards which read, “Comhghairdeas Martin McDonagh”, “Réalt Mór Leitir Mealláin” and “Réalt Mór Hollywood”, which translates to “Congratulations Martin McDonagh”, “Big star of Leitir Mealláin”, and “Big star of Hollywood”.
