Special vigil to take place for 8-year-old girl killed in Wexford stabbing

A vigil will be held in Wexford for Malika Noor Al Katib

New Ross Municipal District Council confirmed a vigil will take place in 2025.

It will be held by the Wexford Women's Refuge but they are waiting to confirm a date so Malika's mother can attend.

The Wexford Women's Refuge said supporting Aisha Al Kattib during this harrowing time is their priority.

A book of condolences has also been opened at The Tholsel in New Ross. The public has been invited to sign it as a sign of support during this harrowing time for Malika's mother.

Her eight-year-old daughter died from fatal stab wounds during an incident at their home in New Ross.

Emergency services were called to the home on the night of December 1st and rushed the young girl to hospital.

However, she sadly died from her injuries a short time later at University Hospital Waterford.

Malika was laid to rest on December 14th at Kilbarry Cemetery, Waterford.

She has been remembered as a little girl who was full of life and a good pupil.

Locals also said she loved to make people smile.

Malika's father Mohammad Al Shakir Al Tamimi has been charged with the murder of his eight-year-old daughter.

He has also been charged with the attempted murder of his wife.

He remains in custody.
