As Storm Ophelia continues to cause chaos around Ireland, in Dublin the Luas has confirmed it is curtailing its service.

A statement added that there “will be no tram service from midday for the remainder of the day”.

Trams are being brought back to the Luas depots where they will be stored safely.

It is expected that normal service will resume Tuesday October 17 at 5.30am.

The statement further explained that the decision was made due to a number of reasons. Namely:

  • Electricity in the overhead power lines must be turned off and cannot be turned on until a visual and technical inspection is undertaken this evening.
  • Staff Safety is our priority.
  • The infrastructure will also need to be checked for debris and water levels.

Luas said it will review the situation on an ongoing basis and that it is “taking advice from Met Éireann and the National Emergency Coordination Committee”.

Also on Monday, Dublin Bus announced they it planned to stop services from 10am.

While peak services operated as normal, the company added there would be “significant disruption” to routes between 10 am and 7pm.

Irish Rail has already notified customers of a series of travel arrangements put in place for today due to the weather warnings for the hurricane.

They updated customers on their website and a number of routes have already been affected due to the weather.
