Add us as a preferred source on Google »Storm Éowyn is set to hit Ireland on Thursday night (23 January) and, in an extremely rare event, all 32 counties have been issued Status Red wind warnings.
Met Éireann has said that there will be gale to storm force winds with "extreme, damaging and destructive gusts in excess of 130km/h".
As for the impact the storm will have, a list from the Irish meteorological service includes the following:
"Danger to life, extremely dangerous travelling conditions, unsafe working conditions, disruption and cancellations to transport, many fallen trees, significant and widespread power outages, and coastal flooding in low-lying and exposed areas."
The Irish Government has already said that schools, early learning and childcare settings and further and higher education institutions in red-level warning areas will close for the duration of the warnings.
This is as employers in red warning areas are urged to facilitate working from home for all employees who can do so.
"Only emergency service workers should be leaving home for work, where directed by their employer," the statement on the Government's website reads.
Transport for Ireland has also said that public transport - including bus, tram and train services - will not be operating when the Status Red Warning is in place.
Services in the hours before and after the Red Warning takes effect are also likely to be severely impacted.
