Sun Journalist Fabricates Story About European Border Controls

Ellen Tannam

A story run by UK tabloid The Sun has been found to have made false claims around border controls in Europe.

According to The Guardian, the reporter Emile Ghessen had claimed to have avoided all security checkpoints during a 2,000 mile trip along a refugee trail to Europe from Turkey. This claim was run as part of a story about the lax security around Europe in terms of the organisation and planning of terrorist activity.

However the Croatian government has now produced proof that Ghessen’s documents had been checked twice by border officials.

The Sun published Ghessen’s story as a ‘damning report’ with the controversial headline: ‘Six Days To Terror’.

The story has been removed from the Sun’s website and the paper have stated they are investigating the issue.
