Dayna Kearney, who survived the horrific crash which saw four of her best friends lose their lives last year, appeared in court today faced with allegations of dangerous driving causing death.

The 21-year-old from Crossneen in Carlow appeared before Athy District Court today, Tuesday, according to The Irish Times.

Aisling Middleton, Niamh Doyle, Gemma Nolan and Chermaine Carroll all lost their lives in the crash which happened near Athy Co. Kildare on January 6th 2014.

The five pals were embarking on an ice skating trip when the car they were travelling in collided with a Volkswagon Transporter.

Today, Judge Desmond Zaidan formally sent the case forward for trial to the Naas Circuit Criminal Court sitting which begins on June 21st 2016.

He advised that the defendant was able to plead in the case and that a summary allegation, that Dayna drove a car which she knew to be defective, be added to the indictment.

Dayna was remanded on continuing bail pending the trial. Her solicitor requested that her passport be returned to enable her to work in the United States this summer however Judge Zaidan said that was a matter for the circuit court to decide.
