TDs Mick Wallace and Clare Daly were arrested at Shannon Airport earlier this afternoon, according to reports.
The duo, who have since been released without charge, were detained after allegedly attempting to “inspect” a US military plane at the airport.
The two aircraft that Mr Wallace and Ms Daly were found beside, a US Hercules transport plane and a Boeing 737 US military plane, were apparently parked away from the main terminal.
According to the Irish Independent Ed Horgan of Shannonwatch, a group that monitors the movement of military planes in and out of the airport, said he witnessed the arrests.
He told the publication: “The aircraft were being guarded by the Irish army and Clare Daly and Mick Wallace were arrested by airport police quite close to the aircraft”.
A file is reportedly being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
