It’s going to be a hot one.
The heat just simply won’t let up at all, and it looks like it’s going to continue for the next week.
Met Éireann has issued a rare high temperature advisory in anticipation of hot weather hitting Irish shores this weekend.
“Ireland will experience a hot spell Sunday and into early next week,” the meteorological organisation said.
“Day time temperatures will widely reach the high twenties, possibly exceeding 30 degrees in some locations.
“Remaining uncomfortably warm overnight too.”
More updates are set to follow as more information comes in.
The advisory is valid from 3pm Wednesday (13 July) until midnight next Wednesday (20 July).
“While the high builds in on Friday and Saturday the high temperatures will range generally in the low to mid 20’s,” said meteorologist Paul Downes.
“There will also be some upper cloud at times making sunshine a little hazy and there is a chance of a few showers too. As the high begins to drift a little to the east on Sunday, temperatures will rise to mid to upper 20’s with temperatures possibly surpassing 30 locally on Monday.
“There is a little more uncertainty regarding Tuesday but it does look like it will be another hot day and perhaps as hot if not hotter than Monday.
“While this warmer air moves in our direction there will be the chance of a few thundery bursts especially on Tuesday.”
Downes recommended that the public remain hydrated and to be Sun Smart, taking care of animals as well as themselves.
The meteorologist anticipated warm and humid nights, where temperatures may not drop below the mid to high teens or even 20 degrees.
While the advisory has been announced for now, Downes predicts that a warning could be issued within the next few days.
The warmest temperature ever recorded in Ireland was in Kilkenny Castle in 1887, which saw one night in June reach 33.3 degrees Celsius.
In more recent times, Elphin in Roscommon recorded a temperature of 32.3 degrees in July of 2006.
