A man who is suspected of fatally stabbing his girlfriend in Plano, Texas over the weekend has told police the murder was part of a suicide pact between the couple.

Dallas News reports that Kenneth Alan Amyx told the police that his girlfriend Jennifer Lee Streit-Spears had ‘chickened out’ of a suicide pact with him.

Police found the two of them with multiple stab wounds in her apartment.

Amyx is also being held on outstanding warrants for continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 in Rockwall County and indecency with a child in Dallas County.

After Amyx was arrested he and Spears came up with the suicide pact as he was a wanted man. They had previously planned on running away together.

He took photos of both of them and uploaded them to Facebook, causing alarm to friends of both him and Spears.

The photo of Spears remained posted on Facebook for 36 hours.

According to ABC News, Facebook staffers had a good reason for keeping the image on site:

“It was not immediately apparent to the company that Spears’ account had been compromised by another user and that many instances when people share graphic content on Facebook, it involves people condemning violence. Once the reality of Spears’ situation had become clear, Facebook staff removed the image and “memorialised” Spears’ page, enabling friends and family of the victim to see her pictures and posts without showing any pictures allegedly documenting her killing.”
