Most people love a good selfie.

Out in the club with the gals, a good makeup day or even to try out the newest Snapchat filter – a selfie brings a smile to everyone.

One couple were taking a selfie while hiking in the Peak district in Derbyshire, England and little did they know that the picture would later save their lives.

The pair were exploring the mountains when they found themselves stuck on a dangerous ledge, high in the valleys.

As the couple were stranded, they sent the nearest rescue team, Edale Mountain Rescue a selfie to show where their exact location was via Whatsapp.

The emergency services were able to easily find their exact location thanks to the instant messaging app, rescuing the couple soon with a rope system and bringing them to higher ground.

Speaking to the BBCteam leader Steve Rowe told of how the couple used their gadgets to be rescued:

“Quite a lot of people get into trouble because they rely on technology, but this couple were able to use their mobile phone and photos for their benefit so it was a good result.”

Very interesting indeed.

I’m definitely telling my mum this story the next time she nags me about spending too much time on my phone.
