Thunderstorm warning issued for eight counties

Two separate weather warnings have been issued affecting eight counties across Ireland.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan and Leitrim.

The warning comes into effect at 12pm on Friday and remains in place until 9pm on Friday night.

Met Éireann said there will be a risk of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, while heavy downpours will bring a risk of localised flooding.

Separately, the Met Office has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for Armagh, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.

The warning is valid from 12pm on Friday until 8pm on Friday night.

It said some scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms could cause some local travel disruption.

Showers will be heaviest in Ulster, Leinster and north Connacht, with a risk of thunderstorms in Ulster and north Connacht this afternoon and evening.

It will become cloudier in the southwest through the day with rain arriving during the afternoon and will spread over Munster this evening.

It will be relatively mild with temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees with light southerly breezes.
