WhatsApp have just announced that a new feature will allow their users to see when somebody has read their message.

At the moment, many users thought that if there was one tick on a message then it had delivered but had not been read, while two ticks meant that the person had read the message.

However, WhatsApp have now revealed that the two ticks actually just meant successful delivery and that from now on, with the latest update of the app, the two ticks will go blue if the recipient has read the message.

So what exactly will the ticks mean? Well, one tick on a message means that the message has been sent. Two ticks will show that the message has been delivered successfully, while two blue ticks will mean that the recipient has read the message.

The FAQ part of the WhatsApp website explains all the new changes.

Meanwhile, for those of you who are chatting in WhatsApp groups, the two ticks will not turn blue on the message until everyone in the group has read it.

Other updates are also available, including a handy info check on the status of a message, and WhatsApp also offers reasons as to why your message may not have delivered to a phone such as, “their phone might be off.”

WhatsApp have updated their site to include a run down on all these changes.
