'A tragic scene': The four men killed in last night's Donegal crash have been named

The men who were killed in a car crash in Donegal last night have been named.

They were John Harley, 24, from Falcarragh, Sean Harkin, 22, also from Falcarragh, Micheal Roarty, aged 24, from Gaoth Dobhair and Daniel Scott, in his 20s, from Gortahork.

The men died when the 2001 Toyota Corolla they were in left the road at Gleannhulaigh near Magheraroarty in the west of the county.

The four were pronounced dead at the scene.

There was no other vehicle involved in the collision, which Gardaí say occurred at 8.40pm on Sunday night.

Family members attended the scene last night, Superintendent David Kelly said today.

Gardaí are now working to establish what happened in the lead-up to the crash.

“When Gardaí attended the scene they found one vehicle which was Toyota Corrolla, hatchback, silver in colour and it was off the road. There were four casualties,” Superintendent Kelly told The Irish Sun.

“Also in attendance was the HSE ambulance service and our colleagues from the Donegal County Council fire and rescue service.

“As you can imagine it was nine o’clock at night and it was dark.

“It was a tragic scene. Family members arrived and so there was good work done by all the emergency services in difficult conditions.”

The crash site remains sealed off.

Father Brian O’Fearraigh, a local priest who was called to the scene, described it this morning as “the stuff of nightmares”.
