She will face trial next July.

The trial date has been set for the former nurse charged with the murder of eight babies in the UK.

Lucy Letby was charged with eight counts of murder and 10 counts of attempted murder in connection to several cases of baby deaths in a hospital in Cheshire, England.

BBC News reports that she will stand trial at Manchester Crown Court next year, starting July 4 2022. The proceedings are expected to last six months.

Letby has been charged with the murder of eight infants while she was working at the Countess of Cheshire Hospital between 2015 and 2016. She is also accused of the attempted murder of 10 other infants.

The former nurse was first arrested in 2018 in connection with the deaths, and later again in 2019 and 2020.

An investigation was launched into infant deaths in 2017. Police was originally concerned with the deaths of 15 babies between June 2015 and June 2016, before the investigation was expanded to include 17 deaths and 16 non-fatal collapses.

Letby worked as a student nurse in the hospital for three years before graduating to become a children’s nurse.

A pre-trial hearing will take place this October.
