“A true gentleman and great friend to everyone who knew him.”

Tributes are being paid following the death of Gogglebox Ireland star Paul Roche.

Paul, who was a fan-favourite on the show, died suddenly at his home in Youghal this week.

He was well-known for appearing on the show alongside his friend, John Paul Healy, who also sadly passed away last December. Together, the Cork duo were dubbed “the two Pauls” by viewers.

Paul was known by the nickname Benny to his many of his friends and family. He is being remembered as a great musician and guitarist with a kind personality.

“A true gentleman and great friend to everyone who knew him. A fantastic all-round musician who will be sadly missed by all of us who knew him. Paul R.I.P,” one person said.

“So shocked and saddened to hear of Paul’s sudden death. A true gentleman and always had a smile and a chat for everyone. He will be missed in Youghal,” another said.

“You left footprints of kindness wherever you went. RIP Paul,” a third added.

Another person shared an inspiring story of their time with Paul.

“When I was a teenager I used to go in to the internet cafe in Youghal that Paul owned every day and spend hours on YouTube watching videos of metal bands and famous guitarists.

“Paul noticed my keen interest in heavy music and particularly guitar and he introduced me to the likes of Iron Maiden, Paul Gilbert (who is still my favourite guitar player) and Steve Vai.

“And then the icing on the cake was when Paul pulled out an acoustic guitar from behind the counter and shredded some maiden and some Gilbert on it and that absolutely changed everything for me.

“That is one of the key reasons I started playing.”

Paul’s funeral took place in County Kilkenny, where he was originally from, on Monday 22 November.
