Trump invites US women’s soccer team to ‘the f**king White House’ out of spite

Could we love Megan Rapine any more?

The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup has proved good entertainment so far, and well worth catching up on as the quarter finals approach.

Aside from a rake of VAR-related controversies, the standout performance has come from the USA.

Having mercilessly destroyed Thailand 13-0 in their opening contest – and celebrating each goal because that’s what you do when you score in a World Cup – the Americans have mostly cruised by so far and look like the team to beat.

They also have bags of personality amongst the players, as evidenced by captain Megan Rapinoe, she of cool hair and cooler penalty-taking skills fame.

She’s gone one better as of Wednesday, once again rattling the cage of US President Donald Trump

She previously come under fire for not placing her hand over her heart and refusing to sing during a rendition of the American national anthem before a match.

Asked if she was “excited about going to the White House” by Eight By Eight magazine, Rapinoe responded with an almighty shrug.

“I’m not going to the fucking White House,” she began.

“No, I’m not going to the White House. We’re not going to be invited.”

Short and deliciously sweet, Rapinoe’s comments didn’t escape the attention of the man who resides in said fucking White House, and sure enough, just a few hours later, Donald Trump took to Twitter to issue a riposte.

Three tweets in total, no less, with random capitalisation for everyone to enjoy.

“Women’s soccer player Megan Rapinoe just stated that she is ‘not going to the F… ing White House if we win.’,” Trump announced.

“Other than than the NBA, which now refuses to call owners, owners (please explain that I just got Criminal Justice Reform passed, Black unemployment is at the lowest level in our Country’s history, and the poverty index is also best number EVER), leagues and teams love coming to the White House,” he added.

“I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!

“We haven’t yet invited Megan or the team but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose. Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her and the team.

“Be proud of the Flag you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”

So there you have it. The best kind of invite; one out of pure spite.

At time of writing, Rapinoe has yet to accept or snub said invitation, with Friday’s quarter final clash with World Cup hosts presumably taking priority.
