Two more live debates on the eighth amendment will be happening on RTE soon.

The debates will be broadcast over the coming weeks during RTE’s Claire Byrne Live and Primetime.

These debates will see both the Yes and the No side argue their cases as to why the eighth amendment should be repealed or retained.

The law makes abortion illegal in Ireland except where there is “substantial risk” to the life of the mother.

This came after RTE announced their summer schedule last night.

RTE News and Current Affairs will also be broadcasting live referendum results coverage on RTE One on Saturday May 26. This will be hosted by Miriam O’Callaghan and Bryan Dobson.

These will be the second and third live TV debates leading up to the referendum.

The first took place during The Late Late Show two weeks ago. It saw pro-choice and pro-life campaign members try to make their case on why the eighth amendment should be repealed or not.

The debate also heard from members of the audience on both sides.

The Claire Byrne Live and Primetime debates will take place in the two weeks before polling day.

The referendum on the eighth amendment takes place on May 25.

Irish citizens have until May 8 to register to vote.
