"Police were called at 3.50pm this afternoon (Saturday 23 July) to Bosworth Water Park, Market Bosworth, after a young boy was taken to hospital. "The five-year-old boy was taken to University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire where he subsequently died. An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the death. "We would ask that people do not speculate about the circumstances surrounding the death and leave the authorities to carry out their investigations. If anyone has any information they are asked to contact the police on 101, quoting incident 440 of 23 July. "From all of the staff at Bosworth Water Park we would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to everyone effected by this tragic loss of life."A woman named Lisa-Jane Wood - who claims to be the drowned boy's aunt - left a comment underneath a post on that Facebook page:
It reads:
"I'm the auntie of the boy (Charlie) who lost his life today. And my understanding is he asked if he could go play with his sister in the playground. What happened on they way there no one knows and we will properly never know. "The mother of the child is pregnant and became unwell and her partner was packing the car while looking after there [sic] nearly one year old child. They never believed for a second he would go near the water as they had already played in the water earlier that day. "They believed he had gone to his sister. It was only on her return they asked where he was and she did not know. They went to the playground and he was no where in site. On coming back they seen a man pulling a child out of the water. "They only know it was him because of the shorts he was wearing. I'm not saying they shouldn't of been with him and I'm not saying they should off. But a child has died for God sake and a family is hurting. We will never know why he went by the water but it's something this family will have to live with for the rest of there lives."
