Two men have died in a murder-suicide on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles this Wednesday morning.

LAPD Chieft Charlie Beck confirmed that one of the tow men that died was the shooter, and the shooting took place in a small office on campus.

At 12.05p.m. local time the campus lockdown was lifted, according to the LA Times.

The shooting had taken place some two hours earlier.

A note has been found at the scene, but the victims have not yet been identified by authorities.

There is speculation that it may have been a student who shot a professor and then turned the gun on himself, according to a law enforcement source.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said:

“My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by what appears to have been a murder-suicide on the campus of UCLA,” Garcetti said. “This horrific event, at an institution dedicated to learning and mutual understanding, reminds us once again of the fragility of a peaceful society.”
