Salah Abdeslam, the main suspect in last year’s terrorist attacks in Paris has been released from hospital to appear before a Belgian court, charged with ‘terrorist murder’.

According to the Guardian, he appeared before a judge after being found in an apartment in Molenbeek, a suburb of Brussels, after a long siege and over four months spent on the run.

He is said to be the sole survivor of a ten-person Europe-based cell of the Islamic State terror group.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, said the arrest was “an important blow against the terrorist organisation Daesh [Islamic State] in Europe”.

The President of France, Francois Hollande is seeking rapid extradition of the terror suspect back to France, but this could take several weeks according to Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel.

Hollande will be meeting with the victim’s families in the coming days.
