US couple arrested for attempting to sell their baby on Craigslist

Katie Mythen-Lynch

A Tennessee couple have been arrested after they placed an ad on the classified website Craigslist, offering their five-month old baby for sale.

Parents John David Cain (26) and Deanna Lynn Greer (37) have been charged with aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect or endangerment.

The horrific crime was uncovered after the ad, offering the baby for $3,000 (€2700) was reported by a concerned couple and an undercover detective, supported by the FBI, was dispatched to meet Cain and Greer.

According to the couple’s arrest warrants, the post listed “a 5-month-old baby for sale”.

The New York Post reports that the police officer negotiated a price for the child, arranged a meeting with the couple and handed them the cash. The parents then handed the man the baby.

The infant is now safe and being looked after by Child Protective Services.

Cain and Greer remain in police custody and will appear in court on Monday.
