He met a 15-year-old who lost his entire family

The world is in the middle of a terrifying refugee crisis, with thousands of innocent people risking their lives to flee conflict in their own countries.

Once they manage to reach Europe, few are lucky to resettle into normal life immediately, and many people are forced to live in refugee camps where conditions are poor and hopes are at a low ebb.

One such camp is located in Calais in France, and Independent TD Mick Wallace recently visited it to see the true extent of the devastation.

In the footage, captured by TodayFM News, he spoke about a 15-year-old boy who had lost his entire family on the Iraq Afghan border, and is now alone in a foreign country, sleeping in conditions not fit for any human being.

Visibly emotional, Wallace went on to criticise Ireland’s lack of action as a neutral country, stating that our complacency as a state was something the government should be ashamed of.

This speech comes just days after the British government voted against bringing 3,000 unaccompanied children from refugee camps into the UK.
